I've decided to update the blog only occasionally. I continue to walk 4-5 miles per day, but some of the walks are largely repeats and I am not taking as many photos. I will continue to update my Walking San Francisco Flickr set

Today's walk was special. I had been waiting for a clear day and wanted to take the walk near sunset. Grandview Park is known for some of the best views in San Francisco.

Total: 4.02 miles. 2 hours.

Not the prettiest walk today, but I do sometimes walk to the mall. Especially to go to the farmer's market on Sunday, or to visit the Apple store's genius bar. The Borders is gone, but I am grateful that Trader Jo's is alive and well.

In fact, I stopped in to Trader Jo's today and bought some produce - a fairly heavy bag for the walk back home. The mall is 1.5 miles from my doorstep, but once I got there I walked both floors of the mall, exited behind the mall, and walked around the area a bit more.

Total: 4.6 miles and just under 2 hours.

Oh, I took another 1 mile walk later with my daughter, who came to visit.

Oct 18th 2011 - A 4.5 Mile Round Trip through Stern Grove

Today I walked through West Portal's commercial street, to Stern Grove, and back. I entered Stern Grove on Vale (the car entrance). You descend to the little valley that is Stern Grove. I walked along the meadow which is used as an off-leash dog run, around Pine Lake, and looped back to the main entrance. I left via the steep climb up to the main entrance. I walked back through West Portal, and stopped at the produce market for some figs and berries.

Total walk: Just under 4.5 miles and two hours.

This is going to become a favorite walk.

By the way, I did walk a couple miles each on Saturday and Sunday, but did not actually map them or take pictures. My thigh muscles are really feeling strong – I love it!

Oct 15th 2011 - A 4.2 Mile Round Trip to the Grocery Store (Inner Sunset)

Yesterday's walk was inspired by an invitation for the evening. A friend invited me, along with another friend I hadn't see in twenty years, to dinner followed by an evening of knitting. They were providing the meal and margaritas and I was asked to provide dessert.

I decided that I wanted to buy some toothsome delicacies from the bakery at Andronicos. Andronicos is a great small chain of local grocery stores, and the nearest is located in the inner Sunset. The neighborhood between my house in West Portal, and the inner Sunset, is Forest Hills. Once of the nicest neighborhoods in San Francisco, though there is really only one hill to navigate. Andronicos, at the corner of Funston (virtual 13th Avenue) and Irving, is 2.1 miles from home.

Total walk: 4.2 miles, 1 hour, 50 minutes.
